Top Glendale officials gathered Thursday for a ribbon cutting on a new four-acre lake at a regional park on the west side of the city.

City video showed rainbow trout gushing from a pipe into Heroes Park Lake. It’s been filled with roughly 30,000,000 gallons of SRP water that would normally be used for farming.

Depending on the season, the state will stock several different kinds of fish in the lake near 83rd Avenue and Bethany Home Road.

Glendale’s engineer has said evaporation due to dry desert weather is expected to force replacement of about 13,000,000 gallons of water each year.

The lake, with fishing piers and a fountain, is the newest draw at a regional park with features such as a library and archery range.
