Arizona could lose $225M if spring training is delayed, an economist says

While the first Cactus League games are scheduled for the end of this month, it’s uncertain if the season will start on time because Major League Baseball owners have locked out the players.
Economist Danny Court with Scottsdale-based Elliott D. Pollack and Company says if the Cactus League season is shortened or canceled, it would have a substantial economic impact on Arizona
“I mean we’re talking about thousands of temporary jobs; it’s somewhere in the order of $225 million in wages that are earned just from the Cactus League,” Court said.
When the Cactus League’s season was abruptly canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19, it was estimated that the state lost about $300 million in economic impact.
