AZ Attorney General Brnovich says bar complaints against him and staff have been resolved
Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich says he’s reached a deal with the state Bar to clear complaints against him and several lawyers that work in his office.
The complaints were made by Arizona’s Secretary of State's Office and Board of Regents.
A news release from Brnovich says the deal means both state Bar complaints get dismissed with no professional misconduct findings and no penalties.
The Board of Regents objected to Brnovich suing them in some cases and representing them in others.
Secretary of State Katie Hobbs protested that Brnovich failed to represent her in a lawsuit and worked for another party in the case.
Now she says the confidential state Bar deal delivers justice by helping prevent future ethics breakdowns.
Brnovich calls the outcome a rebuke of anyone trying to weaponize the system to regulate lawyers.
The Board of Regents says the state Bar’s decision does not mean Brnovich is exonerated.
