State authorities and searching groups disagree over the size of a recently discovered clandestine grave.

Groups involved in a recent discovery near the northern Sonora city of Santa Ana reported as many as 50 or more bodies, which would have made it one of the largest clandestine graves ever found in the state.

But state authorities say that the confirmed number, for the time being at least, is substantially lower.

During a Monday press conference, Sonoran Attorney General Claudia Indira Contreras said that after two days of searching, the remains of three or four people had been recovered, though searching was to continue with the possibility of additional discoveries.
