There’s one week left for the Arizona Senate to vote on whether to lift a spending cap on education funding.

If nothing is done, school districts would have to cut a collective $1.1 billion from their current-year budgets.

Democratic state Sen. Martín Quezada says this vote should have been easy.

“This was a routine move that the Legislature used to make back when the Legislature was of a more rational mind. I think what this is really reflective of is how radically extreme our Legislature has become," Quezada said.

The Arizona House last week had quickly passed a resolution to allow the override. The Arizona Education Association held a rally Monday morning to pressure Senate leaders to take action.
