Wildfire damage to Arizona’s rural areas can last for years.

But the bipartisan infrastructure bill passed last year could help some of those communities rebound.

In October, Arizona’s Senate delegation asked the U.S. Department of Agriculture for relief from post-fire flooding, which can fall through the cracks when communities rebuild.

The agency has agreed to release $12.8 million for areas affected by the Telegraph and Bush fires, which burned hundreds of thousands of acres in the Sonoran Desert.

It will also help homeowners who have struggled after the Museum Fire near Flagstaff, which burned less than 2,000 acres but led to severe flooding.
