Arizona Office of Economic Opportunity saw jobless rate decrease in January

The Arizona Office of Economic Opportunity shows a path of recovery for the state in its latest employment report.

The seasonally adjusted jobless rate decreased to 3.7% in January, down from a month earlier.

Year-over-year Arizona nonfarm employment saw a 4.4% climb. However, the month-over-month saw a decrease.

But Doug Walls with the office says this was to be expected.

“As the new holiday seasons wind down and the temporary work that had been hired on in October, November, December is no longer needed. So these are very seasonal losses," Walls said.

The loss primarily came from professional and business service, as well as trade, transportation and utilities.

The largest percentage gains over the year were seen in the Flagstaff and Prescott metro areas.
