The Bureau of Land Management is frequently criticized for its policies on fossil fuel industries, but the agency is also taking on clean energy projects.

The BLM manages 245 million acres of public lands for a variety of uses. During the Biden administration, it has added solar and wind power projects to the list.

The agency is seeking public input on a proposed 500-kilovolt transmission line that would cross the desert about 60 miles west of Phoenix.

If approved, the line would help deliver solar energy to the grid for 30 years.

The agency will take comments until April 13.
