Sonora schools chief: 'It’s certain' all schools will be up and running by August
While many schools in neighboring Sonora are up and running, some work remains to be done.
“It’s certain that we will have a 100% return starting in August,” said state schools chief Aaron Grageda when asked by a reporter Thursday when they would all be open.
Some 84% of schools in the state already are open, but many were vandalized during their prolonged closure amid the pandemic and many still require rehabilitation work.
As in the state generally, he said that COVID-19 cases detected in schools have been on the decline.
Sonoran Gov. Alfonso Durazo had previously said that he hoped for all schools to be in operation by the start of this year.
