High winds in northern Arizona this week have suspended plans for upcoming prescribed burns.

The Forest Service announced Monday that it is halting plans for prescribed burns in the Coconino National Forest.

The agency burned about 350 acres Friday during high winds about four miles south of Flagstaff. And it had plans to continue burns on a 2,400-acre area this week.

But high winds expected on stretches of the Mogollon Rim put an end to those plans for now. The National Weather Service expects 25-mile-an-hour winds Tuesday with gusts pushing 40 miles an hour.

It's also predicting critical fire conditions Tuesday.
