Maricopa County is putting $21.4 million toward health centers that serve low-income patients. 

The county is working with the Arizona Alliance for Community Health Centers to distribute the funds. Grants ranging from $656,000 to $7.5 million will go toward building renovations at five community health centers run by Wesley Community & Health Centers, Terros Health, Neighborhood Outreach Access to Health, Native Health and Valleywise Health. The health centers have locations in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Mesa and Avondale. 

The goal is to reach more Maricopa County residents who are uninsured or medically underserved.

“No matter their income level or ZIP code, every Maricopa County resident deserves access to quality health care in the communities where they live,” said Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Chairman Bill Gates in a press release.  “We are committed to improving access to these critically important services.”

The county will pay for the capital improvement projects with federal pandemic relief funds.
