How this journalist tries to keep Spanish-speakers safe from misinformation

The spread of misinformation has attracted an increasing number of followers over the past several years, reaching a peak with COVID-19-related falsehoods about vaccinations and the relative danger of the virus. A dearth of resources for non-English-speaking people has made the problem even more challenging.

That’s where freelance journalist Maritza Félix comes in. She became concerned about what some of her Spanish-speaking relatives were believing, and she wasn’t seeing readily accessible ways to counter misinformation. It led her to create Conecta Arizona.

The Show spoke with her and started the conversation by asking her about the project’s origins.
