The Arizona Coyotes' desert odyssey could lead to a fourth home venue in about three decades.

The Tempe City Council is scheduled to vote Thursday on whether to formally bargain on the pro hockey team’s pitch to build a new arena and entertainment district.

Staff are recommending that the Tempe City Council let the city manager negotiate with the Coyotes.

But before voting, council members will hear presentations from the Coyotes and Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport.

Phoenix owns the airport and has threatened to sue Tempe over apartments the Coyotes hope to build. So Tempe is letting the team respond to what the airport says.

Then the public will have a chance to tell the council what it thinks about the Coyotes plan for land near Priest Drive and Rio Salado Parkway.

The City Council could also seek legal advice behind closed doors before voting.
