Arizona isn't well equipped to handle the latest rise in COVID cases

As many of us spend more time indoors to escape the Valley’s summer heat, COVID-19 numbers are climbing again.

The Arizona Department of Health Services dashboard listed 13,042 cases in the state for the week in its latest update on June 1. And 33 new COVID-related deaths were reported.

Many questions remain unanswered, including how contagious the latest variants are and whether enough Americans are focused on getting boosted to slow any additional spread.

To learn about those topics, The Show spoke with Dr. Saskia Popescu, an infectious disease epidemiologist and assistant professor at George Mason University.
