Vaccines for 5- to 11-year-olds draw big crowds in Sonoran capital Hermosillo
Vaccinations for kids ages 5 to 11 started in Sonora and across Mexico on Monday, drawing big crowds.
At the Sonoran State Children’s Hospital in Hermosillo Monday, children in that age range — accompanied by parents, older siblings and other family members — moved quickly through long lines to receive their first doses. Axel Santiago Sanchez, 11, and his brother Mateo, 7, had slightly different experiences.
“It hurt more than I thought it would,” Axel said.
“Less!” Mateo exclaimed when asked the same question.
For their mother Socorro Perez, the shots brought relief.
She said she’s looking forward to going out with her family to the movies, to shop or to eat without the fear they often had bringing their young boys along.
Some 48,000 doses were expected to be given in the first round of youth vaccinations in Hermosillo, with a goal of eventually vaccinating more than 250,000 young Sonorans in that age range across the state, according to a state release.
