In a surprise hearing Tuesday called by the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack, a former aide to then-President Donald Trump’s chief of staff offered the committee testimony about potentially criminal acts committed by her boss and the president himself.

Arizona-based political analyst Jim Heath was stunned by the testimony.

“The thought that the president knew that there were guns and all of these weapons around and his response to it was, ‘well, they're not here for me or to get me,’” he paraphrased. “I think it’s just stunning.”

According to former aide Cassidy Hutchinson’s testimony, Trump’s then-White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows sought a potential future pardon from the president for any crimes he may have committed in his role as adviser.
