A corporate entity that owns marijuana dispensaries throughout metro Phoenix is under a federal court order to offer a job to a former budtender who sought to form a union.

But the parent company of Curaleaf Arizona could still prevail in the unfair labor practices case awaiting review by a federal agency.

Court records say Anissa Keane was fired in 2020 from a job in marijuana retail. Curaleaf said she had more disciplinary violations than their policy allows.

But an administrative law judge in Washington, D.C., rejected Curaleaf’s explanation.

Now a federal judge in Phoenix is enforcing some of the D.C. judge’s order while the case awaits review by the National Labor Relations Board.

The local judge’s order also bars Curaleaf from firing staff who try to form a union, threatening that workers who organize will lose tips, and promising perks such as better employee discounts to not unionize.
