The trial of Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner in Russia has been adjourned following a request by her legal team for more time to prepare.

Griner was arrested in February by Russian officials who said they found vape cartridges containing cannabis oil in her luggage. If convicted she faces up to 10 years in prison.

Elizabeth Rood is with the U.S. Embassy in Moscow.

“I will emphasize, again, the commitment of the United States government, at the highest levels, to bring home safely Brittney Griner and all U.S. citizens wrongfully detained,” Rood said.

Griner’s lawyers provided a U.S. doctor’s letter recommending she use medical cannabis to treat pain following her guilty plea last week.
