U.S. Forest Service officials are dropping all fire restrictions in Tonto National Forest, citing an increase in monsoon weather that has lowered fire danger across the forest.

Forest officials made the decision to lighten restrictions from Stage 2 to Stage 1 on Monday, and decided to drop restrictions altogether on Thursday.

Despite the drop in restrictions, officials urge campers to practice campfire safety, such as keeping water and a shovel nearby in case of emergency.

State forest officials are keeping fire restrictions on large portions of land, including all state trust lands north of the Grand Canyon in Coconino County.

National officials are also dropping target shooting restrictions in Tonto, but those restrictions remain year-round on all state land.
