Rising inflation is costing the majority of Arizonans at least an extra $200 per month.

That’s according to a recently conducted survey of over 900 registered voters by OH Predictive Insights.

Mike Noble, chief of research for the firm, said results found rural Arizonans are feeling the most impact from inflation. “Supply chain issues impact rural Arizona at a significantly higher rate than urban areas, worsening the initial effects of inflation by additional handling costs to already inflated goods.”

The survey was commissioned by lobbying firm, the September Group.

Results of the survey and methodology

Impacted Demographics: While Arizonans across the board are feeling the effects of inflation, different demographics experience the effects in diverse ways in response to several socio-economic factors. According to the July AZPOP, 18-54-year-olds, Hispanics, and rural Arizonans are feeling the brunt of pressures from inflation.

18-54-Year-Olds: Younger voters are feeling an outsized impact from the effects of inflation, with 74% of those respondents reporting that they are spending more than $200 monthly compared to this time last year. Women in the younger demographic are especially impacted, with 70% over $200/month.

Rural Arizonans: Supply chain issues impact rural Arizona at a significantly higher rate than in urban areas, worsening the initial effects of inflation by adding additional handling costs to already inflated goods. According to the AZPOP, 64% of registered voters from the 13 rural Arizona counties reported an increase of $200 or more. Rural women are especially impacted at a rate of 68%.

Hispanics: Hispanic Arizonans are especially feeling inflationary pressures, with 71% of Hispanic respondents reporting they spent more than $200 monthly compared to this time last year. This is an 8% increase from the 63% overall. Of that 71%, more than one-quarter (28%) have spent more than $500.

Methodology: This poll was conducted as an online opt-in panel survey. The survey was completed by OH Predictive Insights from July 5th – July 14th, 2022, from an Arizona Statewide Registered Voter sample. The sample demographics were weighted to accurately reflect the registered voter population by gender, region, age, and party affiliation according to a recent voter file derived from the Arizona Secretary of State’s Office. The sample size was 927 registered voters in Arizona, with an MoE of ± 3.2. Numbers may not equal 100% due to rounding.
