Objecting to advice from city planners, the Casa Grande Planning and Zoning Commission has voted unanimously to rezone a piece of land from manufacturing and industry to residential.    

The 127-acre parcel of land at the corner of Thornton Road and Cottonwood Lane has been rezoned several times over the last two decades.

In 2004, a zoning change from industrial to residential was made in anticipation of hundreds of homes being built. Market forces changed and the scope of the intended development never materialized.

According to the Casa Grande Dispatch, city planner Joe Horn told the zoning commission that demand for industrial property is “extremely high” and the land in question which has had over 300 code violations would be better suited for industrial use.

The request to rezone was submitted by a Scottsdale business firm, Tarantini Family Limited Partnership.
