Gas prices are falling in Arizona, and across the nation. The average price per gallon in the state is now $4.17, while the U.S. average has slipped under $4.

John Treanor is with AAA Arizona, and he says it’s a matter of basic economics.

“Demand is the main driver for prices going down across the country,” Treanor said. “Same with individual states. The demand for fuel is down. The demand for oil, on a global market, is down, which has driven the cost of a barrel down.”

Treanor says there’s still wide variation in prices in Arizona. Mohave County has the highest average, at $4.85, while Pima County’s average is nearly a dollar less, at $3.92.
