Traffic deaths surged from 2019 to 2021 in Arizona and across the U.S. While that trend continues nationwide, a new report shows traffic fatalities in the state have fallen by 31% in the first quarter of 2022.

Alberto Gutier is with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.

“One of the things I have to give credit to is to law enforcement. A lot of enforcement. We put a lot of money out in equipment, training, overtime, to make sure law enforcement had what they needed to slow people down,” Gutier said.

Arizona saw the fourth largest drop in the country. The report was done by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
