The Navajo Nation will be receiving more than $50 million to fund internet access projects across the reservation.

The funding comes through the U.S. Department of Commerce and will go to deploy high-speed internet infrastructure.

Tribal government officials had applied for grants toward 63 broadband infrastructure projects. Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez announced that all 63 will be funded.

Nez noted that the CARES Act and the American Rescue Plan Act funds were also going toward building reliable internet access.

The money will be used to build 11 new telecommunication towers, 204 miles of fiber optics and other lines and will ultimately provide high speed access to 27,000 homes on the Navajo Nation.
