A panel of Bureau of Land Management experts has analyzed an environmental impact statement for a proposed copper mine near the Oak Flat area of Tonto National Forest.

The analysts said that further study should be done on the mine’s impact to local water sources.

The report says that the EIS seemed incomplete in places and could benefit from additional information.

It suggested adding both technical reports as well as portions that the general public could understand.

Rio Tinto, the company developing the mine, said in a statement that the EIS was the product of a rigorous, decades-long collaborative review.
