A Pima County superior court judge on Friday said Arizona can go back to enforcing a near-total ban on abortions. Now, Planned Parenthood is asking courts to temporarily suspend that ruling. 

Planned Parenthood paused abortion services at its Arizona clinics following Friday’s decision. But the state’s largest abortion provider said its legal fight is not over.

Attorneys for Planned Parenthood say they plan to appeal the judge’s ruling, but they say as that plays out in court, patients will suffer in the meantime. So attorneys are asking for an immediate stay of the decision. 

In their motion, Planned Parenthood attorneys write that confusion surrounding the newly reenacted abortion ban, "could lead to doctors hesitating to treat patients in dire medical situations."

They add, "the absence of a stay will deprive many pregnant Arizonans of health care they require for an indeterminate period of time, while this case makes its way through the appellate process."

The court has not yet responded to the request.
