A new law gives a bit more freedom to motorcyclists to get around city streets. The law that took effect on Saturday allows motorcyclists to pass to the front of traffic, but only when that traffic is stopped.

Scottsdale police Sgt. Kevin Quon says it’s not limited to taking place at stop lights.

"It’s not just intersection-related, that’s why we kind of emphasized that it is related to vehicles that are stopped. There could be stop signs, there could be backup where it is a larger street," Quon said.

The law also requires cyclists to travel slower than 15 miles per hour and can only move to the front if there are two or more lanes going the same direction. Quon added lane weaving is still illegal.
