When it comes to abortion in Arizona, women are now subject to a ban that was originally crafted in 1864. The only exception is to save the life of the mother. So what could this ruling mean for women who need abortion care? 

This Civil War-era law criminalizes abortion care Arizona, which means possibly having to go out of state to seek an abortion.

Erika Christensen is the co-founder of Patient Forward, an organization that advocates for the decriminalization of abortion care. She says these total bans equal delays in care.

"So what used to be a one day process that might cost a few hundred dollars. Now could be multi-day. So that's multi days in a hotel that is multi days away from your children, you have to find childcare," said Christensen. "Sixty percent of abortion seekers are already parenting."

Planned Parenthood Arizona is seeking an immediate stay of this latest ruling that lifted the injunction while the legal process plays out.
