A coalition called Activate 48 has launched a campaign to crash three ballot measures related to the initiative process itself.

The alliance says Propositions 128, 129 and 132 are designed to limit voter engagement in Arizona.

Prop. 128 would let state lawmakers overrule a voter-approved measure if the Arizona or U.S. Supreme Court says it has unconstitutional language. Prop. 129 would limit the scope of ballot measures to just one topic. And Prop. 132 would require 60% voter-approval for a constitutional amendment with a tax to become law.

“This would just set an unprecedented type of measure here in the state of Arizona,” said Reginald Bolding, outgoing Democratic state lawmaker and co-leader of one of the coalition groups campaigning against the propositions.

Activate 48 will go door to door and use digital messaging and mailers to rally voters in the finals weeks before the election.

“Primarily because we know that these would make it very difficult for people to engage in democracy here in the state of Arizona,” said Bolding.
