As winter approaches, the Grand Canyon’s North Rim is preparing to make its seasonal shift to limited operations.

The North Rim will be making its annual transition to day-use operations on Oct. 16, as it restricts services for the winter season. During this time, the Grand Canyon Lodge and North Rim campground will remain closed.

Park spokesperson Joelle Baird says visitors are still welcome but need to come prepared.

“There is gonna be no food or lodging so everyone who is visiting the North Rim after Oct. 15 should really be prepared and have enough food and water and supplies that they would need for visiting for the day," she says.

More restrictions, including limited water availability and the closure of an information center, will come in later weeks. The entrance gate to the North Rim will close on Nov. 30 or after the first major snowstorm.
