As the election nears, one race that hasn’t gotten as much attention as those at the top of the ticket is for superintendent of public instruction, the state’s schools chief.

It might not be getting the most political play, but it’s a position that holds vast influence over how our state’s public schools function — and comes with a significant bully pulpit.
