The U.S. Health and Human Services secretary is praising Arizona for groundbreaking work in Medicaid reform.

Federal officials recently gave a five-year approval to what the state calls transformative projects run by the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System.

AHCCCS can now double down on efforts to help Medicaid providers statewide combine physical and behavioral health care services.

AHCCCS will also continue work on housing security, in part, by paying up to six months of rent for certain people exiting a hospital, prison or an emergency shelter.

And AHCCCS is now cleared to reimburse federal entities for adult tribal members’ dental costs that exceed a cap that was recently raised by the Legislature.

In a statement, the head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services said she looks forward to more states following Arizona’s example.
