Eviction filings are continuing to rise in Maricopa County.

September was the third month in a row that filings were higher than they had been since October 2008.

The average judgment against evicted tenants has hit $3,337.50. In 2008, it was about $1,750.58

The number of eviction cases being sealed is also rising, reaching about 250 cases in two weeks, according to a Maricopa County Justice Courts spokesperson. Cases can be sealed to protect tenants from future credit problems in situations like rent being paid, or deficient paperwork.

Before eviction moratoriums were put in place from the pandemic, Maricopa County had the highest eviction rates in the country. Those moratoriums are no longer in place.
