Arizona Republican Party Chair Kelli Ward is asking for the United States Supreme Court to step in on the Jan. 6 committee’s subpoena for some of her phone records. 

The filing to Justice Elena Kagan asked to put a temporary hold on the ruling from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. 

Ward has argued that her and her husband’s First Amendment rights would be chilled if investigators are able to learn whom she spoke with around the election. Ward and her husband are practicing physicians and have claimed the subpoena could infringe on patients. 

The committee requested records from just before November 2020 until Jan. 31, 2021. That includes a period when Ward pushed for Joe Biden’s victory in Arizona to be overturned.

In lower courts, U.S. House general Counsel Douglas Letter has argued that Kelli Ward’s extensive efforts to overturn the election provide an ample basis for the subpoena.

Ward’s phone service provider, T-Mobile, has agreed not to respond to the subpoena until there is a resolution of this case.
