As election workers continue to count ballots, most of Arizona’s major races remain too close to call — including the race for secretary of state.

But Democrat Adrian Fontes extended his advantage over Republican Mark Finchem on Thursday night and now leads by more than 100,000 votes.

The winner of that race will oversee Arizona’s elections going forward.

The race pitted a fervent election denier in Finchem against Fontes, who helped RUN the 2020 election in Maricopa County.

Fontes has spent much of his campaign focused on defending the integrity of Arizona’s elections.

While Finchem continues to claim the 2020 election was irredeemably compromised and has long sought to decertify those results, which is not actually possible.

The race has garnered national attention, as one of several instances of an election denier seeking a job that would place them in charge of future elections.
