A Maricopa County resident tested positive for dengue, a disease that is spread by an infected mosquito.

In a routine surveillance check done by the Maricopa County Environmental Services Department, a mosquito trap in one neighborhood detected the virus. Cases of dengue have been identified in the county before but they were all related to travel.

County health is offering the blood tests and mosquito prevention kits to the area affected. Officials are not disclosing which neighborhood at this time.

Roughly 1 in 4 people infected will have flu-like symptoms, and 1 and 20 people will become severely ill.

EDITOR'S NOTE: This story has been updated to clarify that tests and prevention kids are only being offered to the affected neighborhood.
