Arizona election update: Close races, likely recounts, ousted judges
Download mp3 (7.25 MB)It’s been more than a week since Arizonans went to the polls and some races are still too close to call. That includes two big statewide races for superintendent of public instruction and attorney general, which is separated by only 771 votes at last count.
Under a new state law, several of those races likely will trigger automatic recounts.
Meanwhile, Governor-elect Katie Hobbs said Arizona voters have rejected the extreme ideology of far-right Republicans. She will have to work with several of those Republicans in the state Legislature.
Also on the ballot, three Maricopa County Superior Court judges have been removed by voters. And newly appointed Supreme Court Justice Bill Montgomery nearly lost his spot on the bench.
