Mexico’s president pleased with turnout for massive march he led
Mexico’s president led a march to Mexico City’s massive main plaza over the weekend.
Official estimates put attendance at around 1.2 million people, among them Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who then delivered his annual State of the Union address in the capital city’s famed Zocalo.
AMLO, as López Obrador is widely known, called for the march in the wake of a recent nationwide protest that saw thousands turn out to the streets in cities across Mexico to oppose an electoral reform the president is pushing. It was one of the most significant opposition mobilizations of AMLO’s presidency to date.
On Monday, the president said he was pleased with the turnout at his march.
