A Tucson man will go to trial next year for the 2018 murder of a U.S. marshal.

Ryan Phillip Schlesinger had a documented history of harassing law enforcement in Tucson. At one point, federal prosecutors say he visited the parents of a Tucson police officer and warned the officer that "crossing him" was the biggest mistake of her life.

Then, in November 2018, police moved to arrest him for allegedly stalking another officer. A violent offender task force of the U.S. Marshals closed in on his Tucson home. Prosecutors say Schlesinger shot U.S. Marshal Chase White twice in the chest, killing him.

A trial is scheduled for October next year. Prosecutors have said they will pursue the death penalty.
