Staffing nursing homes continues to be a problem. There just aren’t enough people who want to do that kind of physical and emotional work. Still, there are some signs of progress.

The economy added 263,000 jobs last month and 2,800 were in nursing care facilities, according to the National Investment Center for Seniors Housing & Care.

It’s a step in the right direction and adds upon Octobers’ numbers, which saw about 4,100 new workers in nursing homes.

In Arizona, at least, that figure is really a drop in the bucket of what some experts project is needed in the coming years.

According to PHI, which studies the direct care workforce, Arizona will need more than 190,000 direct care workers by 2028.
