This Oxxo convenience store in Guaymas, Sonora was one of several reportedly burned in that city and neighboring Empalme.

The Sonoran coastal cities of Empalme and Guaymas were again the site of a chaotic, violent weekend.

Photos posted by the Guaymas Fire Department on Sunday show a heavily damaged Oxxo convenience store, one of several locations reportedly damaged in suspected acts of arson over the weekend in the neighboring coastal cities.

A number of arrests were made in the wake of the incidents in operations including military personnel, and investigators are looking into whether the suspects were involved in the fires, state security officials say.

Drugs, bullet proof vests, devices to puncture tires, multiple firearms and ammunition were seized. For a number of years, Guaymas and Empalme have been epicenters of violence in Sonora.
