If you’re headed out on Dec. 31 for fireworks and champagne in the Phoenix area, Valley Metro wants you to get home safely. Rides on the bus, light rail or streetcar will be free on New Year’s Eve.

From 7 p.m. on Dec. 31 to 2 a.m. on Jan. 1, Valley Metro will waive fares for all riders. The public transit service will also offer extended hours on its light rail and Tempe streetcar lines to help get more revelers home after ringing in 2023.

The program is sponsored by the beer company, Molson Coors, in an effort to cut down on drunk driving. Phoenix is one of six cities participating in the Coors Light Free Ride program. The partnership has provided more than 188,000 free Valley Metro rides since 2013.
