President Joe Biden visited the U.S.-Mexico border in El Paso, Texas, Sunday on the heels of an announcement last week that instead of ending the controversial measure known as Title 42, he will expand it for the time being.

The Trump-era public health rule has allowed U.S. officials to expel thousands of migrants at the border without letting them apply for asylum. The U.S. Supreme Court put the repeal of Title 42 on hold pending arguments recently.

Now, under the new plan, the U.S. government will be able to immediately expel migrants from Cuba, Haiti and Nicaragua. It establishes a parole program for migrants from those countries that will mean some of them can get into the country legally.

But Elvia Díaz says the new plan isn’t fooling anyone. Diaz is the editorial page editor of The Arizona Republic and joined The Show to talk about her column.
