With nearly 2,200 participants, Hermosillo claims world record for most simultaneously grilling
Sonora’s international reputation for carne asada — or grilled beef — is well known. But now the capital city Hermosillo has a new record to boast about.
With nearly 2,200 participants tending to thousands of pounds of beef, the mass cookout in downtown Hermosillo was far more than sufficient to earn the Guinness World Record for the most people simultaneously grilling or barbecuing. That distinction was previously held by a city in Canada.
“It internationally certifies that Hermosillo is the carne asada capital of the world,” Sonoran Gov. Alfonso Durazo said of the recognition.
Proceeds from the accomplishment will support athletes from the state.
Hermosillo previously won Guinness recognition for the longest grill — at more than a kilometer — in 2005, and the largest serving of tacos in 2015.
