One Republican solution to an Arizona budget impasse: Change the constitution

Republicans in the state Legislature are facing a reality this session they have not had to face for many years: working with a Democratic governor, Katie Hobbs, to pass a budget.

If they don’t, there will be a government shutdown — and who faces the political fallout from that is yet to be seen.

But now, GOP lawmakers want to change the state’s constitution to end the possibility of a government shutdown, essentially taking away any consequences for failing to work with Hobbs.

Jerod MacDonald-Evoy has been writing about this for the Arizona Mirror and he joins us now to talk more about it.
