One Republican solution to an Arizona budget impasse: Change the constitution
Republicans in the state Legislature are facing a reality this session they have not had to face for many years: working with a Democratic governor, Katie Hobbs, to pass a budget.
If they don’t, there will be a government shutdown — and who faces the political fallout from that is yet to be seen.
But now, GOP lawmakers want to change the state’s constitution to end the possibility of a government shutdown, essentially taking away any consequences for failing to work with Hobbs.
