In 2015, Arizona became the first state to require students to pass a civics test before they can graduate high school. It’s a trend that’s been copied in other states since.

Now, the Arizona Board of Regents is putting a similar program in place in Arizona’s universities.

It’s called the “American Institutions” requirement, a civics curriculum that will build on what students are taught in high school.

Suzanne Dovi is the person in charge of shaping that program at the University of Arizona. She’s a professor in the School of Government and Public Policy at UA.

Dovi is in the pilot stages of the program now, testing out a civics course for her students this semester. The Show talked with her about it.
