The Biden administration has taken steps to address the problem.

The president’s budget calls for a 12% increase for the agency, which oversees the Bureau of Land Management, the Fish and Wildlife Service, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Bureau of Reclamation and other departments.

The administration set goals for climate change, wildfire management, drought, conservation and renewable energy.

The agency’s budget will be nearly $19 billion and includes funding for changes in wildland firefighting.
