Tucson’s elections have long been a point of conflict with the state Legislature and many conservatives, who argue that they give an unfair advantage to Democrats in the liberal bastion.

They have faced lawsuits, initiatives and now a new spate of attacks from Republicans at the Capitol. Two efforts are underway now to force Tucson to change its elections system — in roundabout ways.
