The Transcanyon Waterline, which supplies water to the local community and millions of visitors to Grand Canyon National Park, will be undergoing a $208 million multi-year repair project. The project is expected to be completed by 2027.

Planned upgrades within the inner canyon and the South Rim will be able to meet water demand for the next 50 years and serve 2,500 residents year-round.

Work in the spring and summer will focus on setting up construction infrastructure and staging areas in the inner canyon and South Rim. Park officials say the construction should not cause any restrictions or closures this year that would impact Grand Canyon visitors.

The Transcanyon Waterline was built in the 1960s, and provides drinkable water for 6 million annual visitors.

Since 2010, park officials say there have been over 85 major breaks in the waterline, disrupting water delivery. Each break can cost over $250,000 to repair.
