Last year, the Center for Biological Diversity reached a legal settlement with the Bureau of Land Management over its handling of grazing near the San Pedro River.

The center has filed a notice of intent to sue over alleged violations of that agreement.

The San Pedro is home to a number of endangered plants and animals.

Conservationists say that drought and overgrazing have been hard on the river, and have documented about 60 violations of cattle grazing outside of their allotments since the settlement was reached.

Charles Babbitt, of the Maricopa Audubon Society, says the BLM has fallen short of protecting the river. .

“They are failing to repair, and maintain those fences and monitor the condition of fences throughout the area,” Babbitt said.

The river is located in southeast Arizona. The agency has 60 days to respond to the complaint.
